Kinder Bueno Twists
These are so ridiculously easy, I contemplated that they didn’t even deserve a post of their own. Anyone can make these, regardless of your cooking abilities. I generally make these if I have a little bit of leftover puff pastry from jambons or sausage rolls as you really only need about 1/2 of a sheet of the pre-made puff pastry.
I saw these on TikTok but using Mars Bars and I decided I had to try them for myself. They are very sweet but the pastry adds a slight savoury dimension to the melted kinder. Baking them in the oven does mean that the kinder buenos lose their crunch, but you are left with a chewy, buttery, chocolatey delight. With only 4 ingredients, you should give these a go for something a little bit novel. They by no means are a baking masterpiece but they are tasty and unique!
I only realised when typing the recipe how hard it is to describe what exactly I’ve done with the pastry to get them to look like the photo above. Basically there are no rules, you can roll it like a sausage roll or cover it however you like. Personally, I just think that the plait like finish makes it looks more fancy.
Ingredients (makes 4 sticks)
1/2 sheet pre-made puff pastry
1 egg yolk (beaten)
1 tsp granulated sugar
2 standard kinder bueno bars (ie. 4 individual sticks)
Method
Preheat oven to 180 Celcius
Cut pastry into squares that would fit the individual bar in the centre. You want enough space to be able to cover the bar in pastry over the top, bottom and sides if you were to fold the pastry onto the bar.
Place the bar in the centre of your raw pastry square and using a knife cut into the pastry into strips either side of the bar and top and bottom (I cut mine into about 5-6 strips either side and one on the top and another on the bottom).
Fold the top and bottom segments of pastry onto the bar. Begin to wrap the strips either side (kind of like a plait) over the bar going from left to right and repeating that movement until the strips are covering the bar almost completely. It’s ok if there is a few gaps.
Repeat these steps for the other 3 remaining bars.
Brush the top of the pastry bars with the egg yolk.
Sprinkle with a little bit of granulated sugar.
Bake in the oven for about 25-30mins (until the pastry has a good golden colour).
